I'd go for a 2600xt because it's nearly $100 less and it has a faster gpu. The only thing it has less than the 3850 is a 128 bit interface instead of the 3850's 256.

"Naming them would either make it clear that Linux is not infringing at all (which is quite possible, especially if the patents are bad), or would make it possible to avoid infringing by coding around whatever silly thing they claim,"

"So the whole 'We have a list and we're not telling you' should tell you something. Don't you think that if Microsoft actually had some really foolproof patent, they'd just tell us and go, 'nyaah, nyaah, nyaah!'?"

MasterScottyy, sorry if all these numbers look like technobabble, but building your own computer is actually not all that hard, most of the hard work is in the parts research, but then, thats what this forum is very good for; suggesting components to buy to give you the best performance for your cash.

Do you need a monitor by the way? and what kind of performance are you looking for? The component list suggested would play just about any new game very well.

Translation:
e2200- Intel Core 2 Duo E2200 Processor
P31 mobo - A good motherboard based around the P31 Chipset, people can suggest some
3850 - ATi Radeon HD3850 Graphics card
160gb seagate - 160GB Hard disk (the company Seagate make good ones)
2 x 1gb gskill = 2 sticks of 1GB Gskill RAM DDR2 6400
rosewill 500 watt - Power supply
Centurion 5 - Case

EDIT: Oh and Welcome to the Tech Forums!

yeah it really depends on what kind of gaming you are talking about...

but notheless $550 for that build will give you playability on any game. just gotta get a monitor, keyboard, mouse if you don't' already have them.

p.s. i need to sell my next rig on craig's list, shoot. i doubt my computer is actually worth $550...

OOH, alright, a closer look and I found that the stream processors and the memory clock completely PWNS the 2600xt, but it has a slower gpu.

lol.... that means BS!!

go check some benchmarks...

the hd2600xt can't beat a 8600gt, it gets creamed against an hd3850!!

its like comparing a 8600gt with a 8800gts 320mb.....

If you compare cards on specifications alone, you might think that the 3870 would be much quicker that the GT.

Check out some benchmarks first!
