If you play at higher resolutions the 1gb would be a better choice.

i have a samsung 24 inch 1080p so most of the time i run 1920 x 1080....

i play crysis, cod4, and grand theft auto 4....

but 80 percent of the time it would be used for music videos and video editing and music stuff.....

which of these cards i listed above is the coolest running?

misc notes:

but i was always an nvidia fan, the 8800 GT/GTX destroyed everything ATI had, and the 3800 series sucked!

but the 4870 is a bad mofo....lol it will destroy anything nvidia throws at it....

i was a non believer but i am now switching, because over the last 4 months i have seen for myself plus everyone on here knows the 4870 is the best card around

Was the best but the new cards have come out, 4870 is one great card BUT nvidia came back with some hard hitters and pulled ahead again, I'm not a fanboy of either and have 2 systems with ATI and nvidia, But my good system has the nvidia. There is a Graphics card Rankings thread and this is the top 10 cards out at this time, The 4870 1 gig is third for the single GPU card, All the X2 cards and the GTX 295 and 9800GX2 are duel gpu cards.
1. GTX 295
2. HD4870 X2
3. HD4850 X2
4. GTX 285
5. GTX 280
6. 9800GX2
7. HD4870 1GB
8. GTX 260 Core 216
9. HD4870 512MB
10. GTX 260

Here is the Graphics card Rankings
thread

Of those the bang for the buck is the 4870 512MB and 1GB. It's nice to see that it has shown some staying power even if it just because Nvidia keeps putting out the same old chips with a new name.

Here's how it will come to:

Insane Resolution.. : the 1GB
If you are crazy about the heat: the TOXIC 512MB..

With your 1080p monitor, I'd get the 1GB, and eventually buy an aftermarket cooler later on if you really want one

I agree with getting the 1gb. Your resolution and the fact that you play GTA4 means you should get a 1gb version.

XFX for the win!

Grab a 1gb, but look for an XFX model.
