I think it looks better having the pins on the CPU.

And I think it's mechanically better.

Agreed. I think it makes for better contact.

Is that a mATX motherboard? Looks tiny.

I think it'd be hard to fit 4 PCIe slots, on an mATX form factor motherboard.
