Default GDDR4 faster?

Isn't GDDR4 supposed to be faster than GDDR3? I was trying to compare on which graphics card to get either ati 3870 or nvidias 9600gt, which one will be faster?

GDDR4 is faster but does not directly translate into increased performance.

I would hold out for a bit anyway as both nvidia and ati are about to launch new cards.

Mee too. Like my card has GDDR4 (one of the first) but there are plenty of new GDDR3 cards that are faster than it. I think Nvidia at the time I bought my card was using GDDR3 for their top end cards and the performance was pretty much the same.

The new series is the big news and the prices/performance look very promising.

You could be looking at a card for $200-$300 with the performance of a 3870x2 or greater.
