i thought a 2.8ghz i7 860 would be better?

The 920 supports triple channel memory which is faster than dual channel. There are some other differences but that is the main one that helps your system run faster. I'm pretty sure it oc's better too.

but i need this computer to fit my gaming needs. i figured i would be fine with am i7 860 and a better gfx card. i don't think it would make that much a difference, right?

The i7 920 is more "overclockable", the socket 1336 is more future proof and it supports triple channel memory.

well i want to get the most out of my money for a gaming computer, look im not saying it isn't better. im saying with my budget and me wanting a gaming computer i think it would be better getting a i7 860 with a better gfx card and stuff. i figured upgrading everything else and just a small downgrade on the i7 wouldn't make that much a of a difference.
