Hey all, just wanted to first off say i'm glad I found this site.

I am interested in helping my friend build a new computer for me. I want it to be a gaming computer, of course. I have a budget of anywhere between $1000-$2000 and around $1500 or a little upwards would be the best. I would like the best bang for my buck, though.

I want to play games like, COD4, Crysis, CSS and hopefully the newer games that come out with maxed out settings with pretty good FPS(going to run either 1680x1050 res, or 1900x1200 res), the best possible. Also if anyone has a nice monitor they'd like to reccommend(I'm thinking of getting the Samsung T240, or T260..want some more input).

well.... i would suggest a quad core and 2 to 4 gb of balistic tracers, a 500 to 750 gb segate 7200.11 drive, a 4870 gx2 or similar gpu, and def spend more and get a good mobo for the future pre one with 45 nm capablilities

Yeah what he said sounds pretty good.
4870gx2 (freaking amazing)
Either get a Intel Q6600 or AMD Phenom (I would recommend the Q6600, but everyone and their dog is either a fan-boy of one or the other)
A nice motherboard around $100 for whatever CPU you plan to get.
4GB of ram

And your set to go.

Note:
Pretty much every motherboard out now has 45nm support, and if it doesn't come with it, you can be sure to get it through a recent BIOS update.

Here is the specs of the new computer I'm most likely going to be building. If you guys think I need any more fans(I want my friend to OC it a bit) just tell me. I also have a keyboard/mouse/mousepad picked out. i am going to be playing COD4, WoW, Warhammer, and other new games. I hope this is a good build for the cost. I am also going to probably add a another HD 4870 sometime over the next few months.

Total comes to $1410 before some rebates and maybe an extra fan(or two?), also excludes the mouse/keyboard/mousepad I picked out. Any advice welcome.

uhmm why not just take the hd4870x2, the 4870x2 will beat your crossfired 4870 and besides when you decide to buy another 4870 you need to change your motherboard.

Budget is more of an issue than I thought it would be. I am just going to go with the 4870(I want a good monitor in that budget) so that's what I'm going to do. Why would I need a new motherboard? I don't know much about this kind of stuff.

well you said you might get an additional 4870 in the next few months you will need a mother board that supports crossfire to achieve that.
