I voted waste of money. This is always true when you are talking about the top of the line newest product out.

people would pay that.
The FX-60 costs about the same now.

People who don't want to/don't know how to OC their 250-300 dollar CPU to those speeds pay that kind of money.

There are those of us that would prefer to be more resourceful. :)

Not only is is overkill, but the Pentium Extreme Edition 955 beats it.

Actualy it is to ppl that dont want to build an INtel system, want a good dual core and the fastest dual core w/out OCing. Again, the multiplier is unlocked which also means :D :D :D for OCers.

To me the FX/XE lines are just a waste of money. Just about everyone with a Opteron 165 is getting to 2.6Ghz, equal to a FX-60, and what, they're like $300 something.

Even an X2 4800 is $400 less than the FX-60 and it would only have to be OC'd 200Mhz to match the performance.

...?

Is it like you can't overclock FX or something?

If you only play games at med settings and just use your computer for things like photo-shop why would you buy an FX which is a hardcore gamer specific proccessor? A 4800+ is only .2 GHz slower then the FX-60 and it's 400 dollars cheaper. If your not going to overclock then whats the use of getting an FX CPU if you are not a hardcore gamer? Save yourself the money and get a 4800+ and you will still be happy and 400 bucks richer :).

And if you think your going to see a huge performance increase with a FX-60 over a 4800+ think again. You could get a 4600+ which is clocked at the same speed as the 4800+ but just with lower L2 cache which shouldn't affect much for what your using it for.
