he's plugging these: http://www.techaddicts.net/reviews/mxs780/mxs7808.jpg

into the bottom left of the third pic here: Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras and more!
(one of the 4 pin inputs is covered by a cap in that pic, which he removed).

What slot does he have his RAM seated in? It should be in the orange slot closest to the CPU.

He most likely doesn't have to RMA the cpu. They are the highest quality part in your computer and are the least likely to fail/be DOA.

yeah but he's worried he screwed it up when he put on the heatsink, and it just seems easier if he can send them both at the same time so he should be good to go when they return, no matter what

yeah not that part, but he said he was like really pressing hard on it when installing the heatsink... i told him i doubt he ruined it, but meh
even if HE didnt ruin it, there's no such thing as a defective cpu?

I'm assuming he used the stock heatsink and with those, you will be putting a lot of pressure on the cpu to get it on. Defective cpu are extremely rare. I have never heard of someone getting a defective cpu.
