Cheaper same performance + Light Scribe

HE DOES NOT need a Full tower with that setup.
Why does he want to buy a full tower? Jesus.
He could shave like $100 off the build if he bought a Rosewill Blackbone or something.

Caviar Green <---Not good as a primary drive, I've tested many of these with HD Tuner... Their write/reads are ALL OVER THE PLACE.
They're good for low power consumption so they're great storage drives, but not as primaries.

Acer monitor <--I disapprove because Acer monitors are notorious for light bleed, color distortion, and a slew of other problems. He should get the Asus equivalent if he wants to spend a small amount and get a TN panel monitor. If he can afford a little bit, I'd recommend a totally different monitor possibly a Samsung if he wants to stay relatively cheap.

790FX <-- He only needs that motherboard if he's crossfiring.
Otherwise I suggest he get a 770, 780L, or 785.
Also, if he's going to spend $100~ on a motherboard, the 890 AM3 motherboards are niiiiiice.

5770 <--
Newegg.com - ASUS CuCore Series EAH5770 CuCore/2DI/1GD5 Radeon HD 5770 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Would outperform that Sapphire card.

PSU: I recommend against it, but I don't keep up with PSUs as closely as other board members. Seek a second opinion.
I usually recommend $50-70 power supplies for a build with those sorts of parts and this sort of budget.
Antec Earthwatts 650w is great and can run all of those parts with no problems.

RAM:
No one that I have ever met needs 8Gb of RAM and I know gamers, engineers, and graphics designers.

The CPU is great.
The Thermal compound is great.
He should get a third party cooler like the Cooler Master Hyper 212 or something.

Also that's the C2 revision of the 955.

Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition Deneb 3.2GHz 4 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

That's the C3 revision, which is cheaper and supposed to perform better than C2, however benchmarks say otherwise that I've seen.

I've heard rumors the C3 revision overclocks further, but in real world performance and benchmarks the C2 often wins.

The C3 is just better for power consumption, but only slightly...

well, whats he going to use the pc for?

about to eat so will be able to post more in a second, but its for gaming/VM machines. He would like to play stalker, crysis, WoW, SC2 Beta on full settings. He would also like to be able to run 4-5 virtual machines at once for his classes.

ok im back.

orihS ‪‪‪Shiro
An X-fire board was chosen because he plans on crossfire in the future. He does not have money for a single 5850 right now so soon he wants to get another 5770.

The 8 gigs of ram is also there for number of virtual machines he will be running at once, and doing his projects.

I don't know why the full tower was chosen. Most liken for the space and the fact that he plans to crossfire in the future.

Changing the vid card and the cd drive
Case changed to http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129021

System updated.

Any other suggestions. Would like to drop the price a bit more.

Don't listen to orihS ‪‪‪Shiro about the case, get whatever you want. It's personal preference, if you want a full tower then go for it, who cares. I have a full tower case. Do I absolutely need it? Nope. Do I love it? You bet. It's really spacious and extremely easy to work with and provides plenty of cable management options. Go for it if that's what you want. I know I will never go back from Full Tower.

Okay, the 900 isn't a full tower.. The 1200 is. If he plans on a 2nd card, he will need the room..

However, the 900 is abit dicey on cable management. 902 is better but 10 bucks more. A dremal and some eblow greese can make the 900 much better though.

case changed to the 902 for now
I had the full case up initially but changed the build a little bit. I may go bat to the full tower since it is more spacious.

I think the issue still is price. Need to shave it down a bit more. Any advise?

including a monitor, 8gigs of ram, a 5850 and other things like the case he wants and a psu to support xfire, i don't think you're going to get close to a $1000 total.

i did make a similar build just to see what i could get and i only got to just under $1300. things like getting a less expensive case and getting a smaller hdd will help reduce the total.

Do you know some nice looking cases with good airflow for cheaper?
