ok, ok, i'll go for a 8800gts more than likely.

thats more than half of my budget though. no way i can get the DS3R/e6750

is there a cheaper mobo that'll work with the e6550 @ FSB1333? i dont think i'll need the mobo to be upgradable... i figure ddr3 will be main stream by the time i need to upgrade again and i'll have to get a new one anyway.

Ill pay shipping on it just to tinker around with it some.

My friend is designing a custom housing for his laptop out of aluminum is water cooling it, he might be able to get some use out of the parts.

ok, so i'm still looking for an affordable mobo that will let me take full advantage of a e6550, 8800GTS 320MB and Newegg.com - SUPER TALENT 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

oh, sidenote, can i use my DDR400 memory in a mobo designed for DDR2? i doubt i'm lucky enough to have them be backwards compatable.

no, ddr is not compatible with ddr2.

Newegg.com - Open Box: MSI 945P Neo3-F LGA 775 Intel 945P ATX Intel Motherboard - OEM

This motherboard should work fine for what you need. You can upgrade in the future to something that lets you overclock better
