Default Fried!!

hey all,
its been a while since i've posted, but i got issues!

ok, my water cooling leaked all over my video card and i'm waiting for some heat sink stuff (scythe ninja and universal clip) in the mail to see if my pc will even start up again. I'm cleaning everything really well and the moment of truth should come later this week. :/

anyway, im looking ahead to the possiblity of having to upgrade to replace. I'm looking at the following:
MoBo: Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-P31-DS3L LGA 775 Intel P31 ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

CPU: Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - Retail

Ram: Newegg.com - Patriot eXtreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Retail

Video: Newegg.com - MSI NX8500GT-TD256E OC GeForce 8500GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

Total: $485.96 - $60 (rebates)

Basically, i want to stay around $450 by using my psu, hdd's, dvd drive, case, etc.

the video card is just to float me until the 8800GTX comes down in price.

my biggest confusion is in what kind of mobo to get. I've been matching the FSB (1333) but i dont know if i should get the DS3, P975, P965, or what...i've got no clue about what the difference is.

Anyone know of a better set up for the money? I'm more concerned with a strong back bone (mobo, cpu, ram) than a fast video card at this point.

Thanks!

How about Gigabyte P35-DS3R and Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800?

you might be able to get a good mobo, a q6600 for like 280 and you could get a good mobo for about 120, and you could get a decent card that will suffice until 8800 prices come down, and you could save a decent amount by getting something other then the 8600. Like perhaps a 2400XT for like 50-75 that isn't bad and runs at ddr3 and has good stats.

err... i'm not too concerned w/ picking the processor, those are basically dictated by price points. I wanna know which mobo i should get. i'm using it mostly for gaming. i might do some overclocking but nothing really extreme.

i checked out the P35 DS3R... it looks like a nice board. probably more than i need, but might be worth it. is buying the 2gb ddr2 1066mhz ram a waste?

i'll prob end up going 1066, there goes 450 though! where lookin at at least 550

the p35 ds3r has been highly recommended thus far on these forums, they will support the next gen in processor technology and are reportedly great oc boards.

btw huge no no on the 8500gt, its a low-end dx10 card that performs on par with a 7300gt/6600gt, and since ur coming from a 7950gt, games might be unbearable, might wanna look into a 7900gs or 8800gts or x1950 pro or xt

he said he was going the cheap route to hold off till the 8800 gtx comes down in price around dec. If you ask me he should just bite the bullet and get a GTX which is like 500 with MIR. Is it really worth it to save 100-150 by waiting 3+ months? Its not like the 8800 gtx is going to cost 19.99 when the 9 series comes out.

If he buys one of those cards for 100 bucks, chances are come around dec the 8800 GTX will drop around 100-150 bucks, which means he will save little if any money at all, it doesn't make any economic sense.
