To flash or not to flash.

I recently built a computer with a GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-UD4H motherboard, i74770K and 16GB ram. Everything is working fine, except Gigabytes bundled EasyTune software doesn't load. I'm under the impression (and have been recommended by Gigabyte support) that updating the bios might fix this problem. I was going to happily do that (as I have done in the past), when I start reading everywhere about major risks updating BIOS (in general not this specific board). The board has dual bios, and supposedly if something goes wrong (I would imagine unlikely) it will refresh to factory default. However, having to RMA a board or rebuild something would be a MAJOR pain, not worth EasyTune software.

Now my questions. How risky is BIOS flashing nowadays (assume burning to USB rather than software/internet updates)? Are problems still frequent, or mostly a thing of the past? Does dual BIOS actually save the day, or more of a marketing play? Assuming no power outage are there other risks?

Any recent negative experiences with this?
