Default First time computer build, thoughts?

I'm new to building my own computer so some of these questions might be a little noobish. First off here's the parts I'm probably going to install.

ASUS P6T Motherboard - LGA 1366, Intel X58, SATA, SLI Ready, CrossFireX Ready, Triple Channel DDR3 support, RAID, Hyperthreading support

Intel Core i7 960 OEM Processor AT80601002727AA - 3.20GHz, 8MB L3 Cache, 4.8GT/s QPI, HyperThreading, Quad Core, Bloomfield, LGA 1366(0.25 lbs)

Corsair XMS3 Tri Channel 12GB PC10666 DDR3 Memory - 1333MHz, 12288MB (6 x 2048MB)(0.85 lbs)

Visiontek 900305 Radeon HD 5970 Video Card - 2GB GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0, CrossFireX Ready, Dual DVI, Display Port, HDMI(4.2 lbs)

Creative Labs 70SB088600002 SoundBlaster X-FI Titanium Fatal1ty Pro PCIe Sound Card(1.75 lbs)

Western Digital WD1001FALS Caviar Black Hard Drive - 1TB, 7200 RPM, 32MB, SATA-300(2 lbs)

Pioneer BDR-205 Blu Ray Burner - 12x BD-R, 12x BD-R DL, 2x BD-DE, 16x DVD+-R, 6x DVD-RW, 8x DVD+RW, 8x DVD+-R DL, 16x DVD-ROM, 40x CD-R, 24x CD-RW, 40x CD-ROM, SATA(2.3 lbs)

Cooler Master HAF 932 Full Tower Black Case(34 lbs)

Corsair TX750W 750-Watt Power Supply - ATX, 140mm Fan, SLI-Ready, SATA-Ready, 80Plus(7.05 lbs)

Intel SSDSA2MP040G2R5 X25-V Solid State Drive - 40GB, SATA, 2.5", Retail(0.7 lbs)

VisionTek 900317 Bigfoot Networks Killer 2100 Gaming Network Card - 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet, Plug and Play, RJ-45, PCIe(0.5 lbs)

So my questions are first will this build work together? Are there any glaring issues that I've missed? Also I'm thinking of upgrading the cpu to the i7 980x Extreme, is this upgrade worth it? Should i buy two radeon hd 5970s? I'm want to use my home theater surround system and av receiver for the sound so do I need the sound card? And is the network gaming card worth the money? Thanks for any help.

What's the purpose of this build? What's your budget?
I would buy this mobo and CPU: Newegg.com - Computer Parts, PC Components, Laptop Computers, LED LCD TV, Digital Cameras and more!
You can easily OC the i7 950 to the i7 950 clock speed.

I would buy this SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...tex%202%2040gb
It's a lot faster on writing than the one you posted. It's worth the extra $20

Do you really need 12Gb of RAM? If you're not doing heavy video/image processing 6Gb it's enough.

Do you really need a sound card? The mobo already has one. I suggest that you try the one included on the mobo, if you don't like it than buy the sound card.

Don't think you need a separate NIC, the one included on the mobo should be fine.

I agree with everything Farinha said; I'd also like to add that a single 5970 is absolutely plenty. Just the one will max out pretty much every game currently out. Buying another one now will be a waste of money and electricity.

Forgot to mention the 5970. I agree with Yami, one 5970 will be enough. You can always add a second one later, and the card probably will be cheaper then.

Regarding the 980x depends on the purpose of the build. If it's for gaming the i7 950 will be plenty, most games use two cores tops. If you use applications that use more than 4 cores, or a lot "heavy" applications at the same time the 980x may be handy. So the first question is, what's the purpose of this build?

A sound card is always better than onboard no matter what and since hes using it on his receiver itll be used. The better question to be asked, is do you need that Fatal1ty card. Id recommend an Auzentech Forte instead.

A single 5970 should be plenty powerful enough in games for a while.

Either get a 930 or the 980x. If your overclocking then no need for anything in between.

A gaming NIC is retarded. Dont bother.

Instead of getting 12gb of 1333 get 6gb of 1600mhz.

Get this SSD instead. Bigger, only 25 bucks more, and faster.

Thanks for all the advice. It's been a while since I've had a gaming rig so I'm not too sure what's overkill an what's needed.

Well, since the difference between the i7 930 and i7 950 is $10 only I would buy the 950 because the chances of getting a good chip for OC are bigger.
