Default First time building PC with $1200 budget

Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and well I'm going to build my first custom PC, well here's the specs -

PSU - KINGWIN Mach 1 ABT-1220MA1S 1220W ATX / BTX SLI Ready Modular Active PFC Power Supply ( Incase I need to upgrade )

Graphic Card - BFG Geforce GTX 285

Hard Drive - Western Digital Caviar Blue WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive - OEM

RAM - OCZ Intel Extreme Edition Dual Channel 4096MB PC12800 DDR3 1600MHz Memory (2 x 2048MB)

Will this work? Anything I need to improve? Also I'm somewhat concern about the motherboard, I've heard it's unstable and have many problems. Im new to this so if it is unstable, is there a other good motherboard out there that's similar to it. Also I haven't bought any of this yet so feel free to suggest other parts. Thx

With that budget I would go for an i7 build.

That power supply is way overkill, you could triple-SLI some 285s with that. Go for something like the Corsair 750TX like I have, or 850TX if you want 8 more amps of power than 72A.

Also, I have the XFX 780i which is a great motherboard, good overclocker and does triple-SLI. the 790i is really just overkill, again.

And finally DDR3 just isn't worth it when you're working with LGA775, general rule of thumb is only to get DDR3 with an i7 system, that way the system can effectually use the extra speed.

Otherwise, good choices.

P.S. With that budget you might be able to go with an i7 build, I'm sure somewhere here can piece something together.
