First ever build

I just completed my first build and my motherboard shows power but nothing happens when I try to turn it on. Any help or suggestions?

Do you have the front panel plugged in properly? Consult the manual for proper pin placement.

I've checked it a few times. The first time I tried to turn it on, the light went on for a split second but shut off. Did I short something out?

Did it only show signs of powering up the first time or is it consistent with flashing the light for a second every time you turn it on?

Only the first time. Now all I get is the green light on the motherboard

Wait so is the green light stayng on then? What exactly happens when you turn it on? Also, what it's the model of the board?

Board is an ASUS P8z77-V LK. When I switch the power supply on, the green light on the motherboard turns on. When I push the front button to turn the PC on, nothing happens. The front button lit up for a split second the first time I tried it, nothing since then

How about a POST beep? If you have one of those speakers, you can use it to troubleshoot depending on how it beeps if at all. Also, this might help: ASUS P8Z77-V LK won't start up - New Build - Systems

It might be your case. Have you tried shorting the two power pins?
