ok thanks. i still couldn't decide about the OS thing though. Maybe i should build it and try XP on it? and then if i don't like i'll buy vista? how does that sound?

but if you install an OS and then another one right after it, will that change anything in the performance or anything? Theoretically speaking, it won't because the old OS is completely deleted from the drive but i'm not sure..

yea its fine, you can still use xp. but if its 32-bit, it wont recognize all the ram, but that doesnt mean it will be holding your system back so much that if you get a 64-bit youll see a dramatic increase. itll work.

if you ever do install vista or win 7 over xp, during the install it will give you an option to format the hdd, so yes, everything will be erased.
