If I were you I wouldn't touch an ATI card unless it had XFX on it.

XFX> All other ATI brands

^ What? Why? There there are a lot of good brands besides XFX, except maybe weird ones like Apollo.

the e7400 is on par if not faster than the X3's the only time where the X3 would be better is if the app/game can use all 3 cores instead of 2.

and XFX is a very good brand. if i ever bought a ati card it would most definantely be XFX. i do not trust other brands.

I agree XFX is probably the best ati oem but I would still consider other brands if they were a good deal.

Yeah I do trust XFX i have an xfx card now.

But how about this motherboard?
Newegg.com - BIOSTAR TForce TP45HP LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

And then will this ram be much of a performance increase over pc6400?
Newegg.com - OCZ Platinum 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

After these questions I think I'm pretty much set in what I'm getting. I just need a good case now. My current case I can no longer get the left side off of it to clean it.

Here's a case I found.
Newegg.com - Thermaltake M9 VI1000BWS Black SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases

The Biostar TP45HP is excellent, it is one of the top overcloking Intel boards.

The 1066mhz ram won't give you much of a performance increase but it will give you more headroom overcloking. I would also consider this ram. The OCZ Golds are great overclockers, zmatt has managed to get them to 4-5-4-15 at 1100mhz.

Newegg.com - OCZ Gold 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1100 (PC2 8800) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

looks, good. that's the same board i recomended

and that ram will be better than 800MHZ

also take a look at the antec three hundred, but the case is pretty much personal choice.

edit: puddle beat me this time.

Okay, I have put together what I believe is my final product.

motherboard
Newegg.com - BIOSTAR TForce TP45HP LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

cpu
Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 Wolfdale 2.8GHz 3MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

ram
Newegg.com - OCZ Platinum 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

hdd
Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar SE WD2500AAJS 250GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives

psu
Newegg.com - OCZ StealthXStream OCZ600SXS 600W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies

dvd
Newegg.com - SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD+R DL 22X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 22X DVD Burner - CD / DVD Burners

case
Newegg.com - Thermaltake M9 VI1000BWS Black SECC Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases

I think that covers everything besides the gpu. I will make that decision based on the best sale and how much I've got left. This will be approx 2-4 weeks until I have everything, still need a nother paycheck or two.

I'm currently got an 8600 so anything is an improvement. Will look at either a 9800 or hd4850 most likely. unless i can grab a 4870 for cheap.

if your gonna be running vista then i highly recommend getting 4GB of ram.

for like $20 some more dollars you can get this

Newegg.com - G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1000 (PC2 8000) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

my vista ultimate uses about a good 1500MB of ram just idling on the desktop.
