Default Final Decesion: Is it stupid?

Ok, so i found out my mobo has an agp 8x slot, but the pci-e slot is 4x. So, im just gonna go ahead and get 2 gigs of dual cahnnel ddr2 and an agp x1600pro to hold me over until the g80 cards come out, when i will get a new mobo w/ a pci-e16x slot but keep my ram. Would you do something different?

PCI-E for video slot is only 16x ?? then you have the other pci-e slots that take the place of old pci. but pci-e video is always 16x.

Wrong on two accounts there. A single PCIE slot is 16x. Dual (apaprt from a couple of mobo's) is 8x. PCI-Extreme is PCIE x4.

X1600Pro is a horrid card. I sent it back in one build as it was that bad.

Edit: To confirm, you have a Intel PC or AM2, yeah?

What am I missing?

That card can only play CS at 1440 X 900 at 40fps average with out HDR. Make that max with out HDR and a low res such as 800, and only 2x AA. The 7900 will run it at 1280 with HDR and 4x AA.

And now i am considering only getting one gig stick of ram and the card and just waiting for a while and getting a second stick. Is pqi turbo a good brand?

None of us were saying to go for a 7900GT this late in the game. We are just saying the X1600 is not a nice card. Well I was saying it is a terrible card.
