I will probably just wait. I am will make a decision once the Haswell-E is out on shelves. I plan on buying a house in the next few months and then wiring in with the server as a media file server.

what types of VMs are you planning on using? just curious. Also, have you thought of having your own little domain?

With FTP servers, you generally won't need a domain because most people just use a direct ip lol. (That's my experience anyway)

Then if/when your IP changes you have to redistribute that IP, unless you pay for a static IP from your ISP.

A domain with dynamic DNS is the way to go if you're wanting any public-facing site/service that you want people to be able to access easily.

I don't have DDNS setup for mine; but I just have to go in and change the A-record in my DNS Zone file on GoDaddy.
