What are the rest of your components?
What will you be doing with the pc?
Where are the fans placed?
Are noise levels an issue?

I would say a min of 1x80mm in and 120mm out if using a fairly barebones pc, please give me more details so that I can give you more specialised advice to your circumstances.

Ahh so your some sort of designer wil you be overclocking the cpu at all?
Did you get the 920 or 940?

That case has fairly rubbish airflow the air goes in through 80mm then travels 10 cm and blown out through the 120mm rear fan. If you want to keep that case I reccomend you mod it with a hole for a larger fan in the window. You could alternatively use a 2/3x5.25" bay converter and then open the front door when using it which is not ideal. This cpu fan may just fit in but it would be a tight fit Newegg.com - ASUS Triton 81 92mm EBR CPU Cooler - CPU Fans & Heatsinks

Max of 3 fans for it. Anymore and you'll start having a huge dust problem.

How long is a piece of string?

It depends, how hot does it get where it sits? what CPU cooler are you using? what case are you using? how much ventilation is there in the room/immediate area the case is in?

Well put. There are a lot of variables. Will you be overclocking? What is the climate like where this machine will be operating?

You will want to have the intake and exhaust to have roughly the same pushing power to get the most out of it.

Once you figure out how many fans and what configuration you want you need to pick the right fans. Good fans to go with are Scythe Slipstreams and Ultra Kazes, Rosewill's LED fans if you want light, And Yate Loon fans.
