I'm soon to be jumping on the famed "Conroe boat."
I'm just having a tough time deciding between two things, about two pieces of hardware. The motherboard and RAM.
Mobo 1) EVGA nForce 680i
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813188009
What i like - I've heard it's the best and/or newest chipset to date for C2D, but i haven't heard anything otherwise. SLI-compatible.
What i don't like - a bit expensive
Mobo 2) ASUS P5N32-SLI
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16813131071
What i like - Cheaper than above. "Tried and true," through my lurking of Xtreme Systems forums. SLI-compatible.
What i don't like - Also a little expensive, but less so than above. I remember when DFI were practically the only boards >$200.
Personally, i'm leaning towards the P5N32, because having lurked XS for so long, i know it's a tried and true board. Either way, i'm in a pickle (otherwise i wouldn't have made this thread ) and i'd like some feedback.
RAM 1) Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800 2 GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?item=N82E16820146565
What i like - Name. I have yet to hear a bad word about Crucial. Nice timings with 4-4-4-12.
What i don't like - Expensive. Very.
RAM 2) Corsair XMS2 DDR2 800 2 GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820145034
What i like - Name. I have heard some bad things, but not many. Cheaper than above. Timings of 4-4-4-12.
What i don't like - Again, expensive.
Personally, i'm leaning towards the Crucial because of the name. I've heard so many good things about Crucial that i'm willing to pay a little extra.
I'd really appreciate any and all help on these decisions. I'm not quite sure what to use, and no matter what i go with, it'll be within my budget, so no worries there. Also, just for clarification, when i said "soon" i mean "before the end of January."
Final note: if you read through the whole thing, thank you! I know it's a bit to read, but it's what's going to help me decide what's going into my future rig.
