Default eVGA 8500GT 256mb

hello, someone told me that the 8500GT 256mb is actually 16 pixel shaders instead of 16 pixel pipelines. is this true?

yes, you wont be seeing pixel pipelines anymore, they'er a thing of the past.

It's also called stream processors...and it's a new technology, that is more efficient than pixel pipelines.

It applies to the whole 8 series. Or I think it's only the 8600GT and above.

Stream processors are better but given same gpu/mem speeds don't you need more stream processors than pixel pipelines to get the same performance?

As in this case 16 stream processors is slower than a 16 pixel pipeline card with the same gpu/mem speeds.

stream processors process geometry, vertex, and pixel shaders, while pixel pipelines only do pixel shaders... so... yea...

stream processors squeeze the most performance out of the card, never leaving any processors empty. For instance, if there was a section that was heavy on geometry, most of the processors would process geometry, and the others would focus on shading and whatnot. But, if there is a section in which shading was heavy, the stream processors could switch from geometry to shading, unlike pipelines, which are stuck at shading permanetly, which means they leave some pipelines blank sometimes. wow, that was a crappy explanation. just google: dx10 +pipelines.
