Default eSATA

So, I just bought an external HDD case that is internal IDE, and external eSATA. So I hooked my HDD up etc...and it powers on all gravy, and the USB connection to my comp works, but the eSATA does not. Will it not work b/c the HDD isnt SATA (again, its IDE)???
