Default equivalent video card?

Luckily I bought an extended warranty since my card fried. My original card was GeForce 8800GTX 768mb. The company replaced it with GeForce GTS 250 512mb. I was concerned about being given a replacement card with less memory. I was told that the new card was better specced than my old one. Should I be concerned or try to get them to give me a better replacement? Will less card memory affect performance in any way even if the card is faster?

The GTS250 is indeed better than the 8800GTX, but only barely. The lesser memory is only an issue if you're gaming at high resolutions.
You could try and push for a GTX260, they're probably trying to get rid of any 200-series stock, but because the GTS250 is roughly equal I doubt they'd do that for ya

A GTS 250 is a rebranded 9800gtx+. The 9800GTX+ is an overclocked 9800GTX. And, here is the interesting part; a 9800GTX is basically an overclocked 8800GTS.

They are essentially the same card. I believe the GTS250 came in two variants, 512mb and 1gb.

Ya that's what I gathered from researching Nvidia site. The question is really whether the drop from 768VRAM to 512 will affect my performance?

Yes, it has the chance to affect game performance. High textures, and high resolutions will benefit more from 768MB of video ram, than 512MB. This is totally game dependent though... I can play some games on 1920x1080 resolution, and max them out, get decent framerate, but on other games, my 512MB card gets put to it's knees on 1280x720.

Theres more than just that... The 9800gtx+ was modified in the last season to be more efficient and only run 1 pci-e connection.
