Is the E8400 the best processor?

Excluding the Extreme series of course.

Tom's Hardware benchmarks have the overclocked E8400 rocking everything, including the Extreme Edition (sometimes).

When you factor in Bang for your Buck, is it on top?

Yep I agree. But instead of buying a Q6600 and waiting for the software to catch up, get the E8400 for now.

Both the E8400 and Q6600 will probably be replaced with even better technology by the time the software catches up anyways.

The difference between dual and quad is not that big right now. An overclocked e8400 will crush the Q6600. Possibly the Q9650. I think its the best because the price is almost outrageous.

depends on your use of it

if your purely gaming, and are willing to buy a quad later, get an 8400

but getting a q6600, you won't have to upgrade your processor for a longer period of time over getting an 8400, and its a beast at multitasking

have fun with alan wake lol, i like my quad, and there isnt truely a bets cpu, there is only a cpu that best fits your needs imo for me it was a quad q6600.

I have said lately.

E8400 if your going to upgrade to a newer quad core down the road, 32nm.
Q6600 if your not going to upgrade for a very long time.

I say e8400, FAR BETTER!

As for future proof? Thats all hear say I will wait to see some quad advantage programs first before ever buying a quad again.

I PERSONALLY will not make that mistake again.

My friend just got his, and has got it running on 4GHz, with Crucial Ballistix, P5K e wifi/ap edition.

Also is using a Tuniq Tower
