OK, so in other words, put off the processor upgrade until I'm ready for a mainboard upgrade as well...

Also for the record, my current E6600 is overclocked by 800MHz to 3.2GHz at 711 FSB (1422 rated) with the 9x multiplier. Even assuming that the current limiter in my overclocking is the 650i chipset FSB and not the processor, given the Wolfdale's E0 stepping and 9.5 multiplier, I should still at the very least be able to push the E8400 up to 3.37GHz with the same FSB frequency... though given that I ultimately want more than that, I'll probably wait and get it, or the E8600 along with the ASUS Maximus II, in another upgrade package later, when I have more money, and time to reinstall/configure my system, so I can overclock it without said limits, and benefit from the features of the new mobo.

Yep I would get the CPU and motherboard at the same time.

I've clocked my E8200 to 3.2GHz with real ease, I could go further if I wanted. So the E8400 should do much better

FSBs are quad pumped not double pumped. Your fsb is 355.5mhz. Not 711mhz. 711mhz is impossible on a 650i let alone most motherboards anyways. The record fsb is 725mhz and that is on LN2.

I would assume thats out of his price range. your looking at atleast another $280 on top of what he's willing to spend for a E8400 and a midrange p45. E8600's are $261 oem right. Certainly not a cheap dualcore

If he is waiting that long then he might as well consider Nehalem.

the 6xxi series doesn't support 45nm yorkies at all so no 9550 for you! but the dualies and quad 65nm's are fine
