E6600 --> Q6600

overclock the q6600 to e8400 speeds... sure.. stock. you can get the e8400 up past 4ghz no problem. do that with a q6600 (for 24/7 with hardly an vcore increase)

Get an E8400 past 4 ghz on a motherboard that was released before C2D, one which as I said I'm not even sure if it supports 45nm processors. IIRC many people get stuck around 380 FSB or so, which isn't much room for overclocking an E8400.
 
I run my q6600 at 3.6ghz 24/7 and i'm willing to put money on it that i get way more performance from that than i would from a 4ghz e8400. If you do any sort of multitasking, a q6600 is going to blow away a dual core. And games are only going to start using multicores more and more.

the p35 with a bios update does. and you didnt specify if you could use an x38 or not. so i was going on the idea that any board, with the e8400
