While looking for some optical drives, I saw that some use E-IDE/ATAPI connections. I have never heard of this type, is it just some fancy name for SATA? (considering the ATA in ATAPI) or is it a different type of IDE alltogether?

they both have connections for IDE (ribbon) so they'd both connect the same...ATAPI/EIDE is simply a newer version of IDE, it supports a faster date rate.
