I don't understand how an ide controller would die. I would understand maybe if two different power supplies were used on one piece of hardware. Say two power supplies on the same board, one hooked up to a EPS and the other to a 24pin otherwise it would make no difference as running a regular power supply alone.

http://www.frozencpu.com/products/56...ter_Cable.html just make sure you grab one of those if you choose dual psu setup, but i would also recommend a single, its just easier.
