Default Dual Opteron Board

Hey guys,

I have decided the next PC for me is going to be a dual opteron. There are a lot of choices out there as far as motherboards go, and I am looking for some recommendations. I was looking at some Tyan boards, but what have you guys had luck with when it comes to dual Opteron?

Thanks.

Tyan makes excellent motherboards.

Is there a reason you want Dual Opterons?

Ex: Are you making a server?

The New Xeons might be the way to go.

But how much are you willing to spend total?

I was lookin at dual xeon, but I cannot justify the price/benefit. I used to have a dual cpu micron PC, and nothing performed like that thing did.

Well if your looking quad core the Core 2 Quad QX6700 might be a better choice, you'll be using quite a bit less wattage. Or if you really want to go with 2 cpus the Quad FX should be popping up soon.

I was always under the impression that 2 dual core cpus would outperform one quad core, all things being equal, is this wrong?

I think 1 quad core would easily outperform any dual cpu system, because it is all consolidated in one chip. And also dual cpu technology is a lot older then the quad core.

c2 quad would be more beneficial then dual cpu's

A dual core will out perform the quad on single threading and Duo Threading processings but the QUad will out perform the Dual on anything that involves Multi Threading.

Read a Quad Core review, they'll explain it to you and if you skim through or read, you'll get the picture.

I sort of did and i'm just learning about all of this.
good luck,
if your planning to run a server type of thing, use the quad.
