dual cpu, tri sli, 48GB RAM?

I might be dreaming to high, but with tax returns coming, this is something I thought I'd throw together... any last thoughts?

The only real questions I don't have answered already for myself is the rest of the water cooling. I know I want two resevoirs, two pumps, for two seperate loops, unless I can run one loop for the three cards. I want the max cooling I can get for all this.

+1, can't really wrap my head around what the purpose of this is.

Xeon chips make me think server, GTX 590s make me think gaming, 48GB of RAM makes me think... really?

If you want a money sink I'd check out the i7 3960X and a socket 2011 MB.

And this shows you's don't know what an sr-2 is....... It definately not a server bvoard.

SR-2 stands foe Super Record 2. It is the only dual cpu board thats overclockable. Which means that theres no other choice but to use dual qpi chips aka Xeon chips.

Now to understand its glory, think dual hex cores running at 4.0Ghz! 24 cores of POWER.

That being said, as of today the sr-2 is out datred and is beat by the 3960x. Plus good luck finding a case for hptx, so you can put an sr-2 into. Theres like 6 sto ck case that work, all over $200.

Save the money, and overclocking headache, get the 3960X and send me the sr-2.. My xeons will thank you.

all I'm trying to see is how much power I can truly achieve... noted about the tri sli, take a card away and go quad sli. I'm mostly going for benchies, a "because I can" type of deal. and patonb, you are absolutely correct on what the SR-2 is, and yes, I have a case in the build up there that should fit... if not, I'll get another Lian Li X1000 and modify it.... definately more than enough room in that case!

It doesn't quite matter if its a server board or not. It's not a CPU designed for gaming or anything of the such. And good luck getting 2 CPU's to the same OC on the same board. By the time you get everything working and completely stable, there will already be 12 core desktop CPU's. And you are right when you say the 3960x beats the dual Xeons. Especially when you're pairing it with the 2 highest end GAMING gpu's on the market today.

It doesn't quite matter if its a server board or not. It's not a CPU designed for gaming or anything of the such. And good luck getting 2 CPU's to the same OC on the same board. The LGA1366 Xeon CPU's game just as well, or better than a LGA1366 i7. And overclocking a couple of Xeon's with the SR-2 will be a breeze, or it would be for me or any other semi-competent overclocker.

The phase-change setup is a bad idea in my opinion, or at least for a full-time gamer. Don't get me wrong, I own a phase-change myself but I rarely use it. You'd be better off just watercooling the whole PC.
