well i'm planning on buying a high-end gaming PC off alienware (Australia, u lucky americans get ALX) and i chose the AMD system, the AMD Athlon™ 64 FX-57 seems to be the best but its price is simply crazy. they had the choice of:

AMD Athlon™ 64 3500+ Processor with HyperTransport Technology [ -$1481.00 ]
AMD Athlon™ 64 3800+ Processor with HyperTransport Technology [ -$1331.00 ]
AMD Athlon™ 64 4000+ Processor with HyperTransport Technology [ -$1236.00 ]
AMD Athlon™ 64 FX-57 Processor with HyperTransport Technology - The Ultimate Gaming CPU! Recommended
AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 4200+ Processor with HyperTransport and Dual Core Technology [ -$1106.00 ]
AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 4400+ Processor with HyperTransport and Dual Core Technology [ -$926.00 ]
AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 4600+ Processor with HyperTransport and Dual Core Technology [ -$676.00 ]
AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 4800+ Processor with HyperTransport and Dual Core Technology [ -$386.00 ]

Other than the AMD Athlon™ 64 FX-57 Processor with HyperTransport Technology - The Ultimate Gaming CPU! Recommended should i choose a AMD 64 X2 4800+ (which is 2.2GhZ ) or should i choose a faster single CPU. I basically play games, don't edit video maybe watch the occasional movie, but no serious editing . maybe some converting. but mostly gaming. which one should i choose?

PS. all prices australian dollar (www.xe.com) for currency convertion.

thnks for that now also ram and video card:

Dual NVIDIA® GeForce™ GF6600 GT 128MB PCI-Express SLI
Dual NVIDIA® GeForce™ GF6800 256MB PCI-Express SLI [ +$422.00 ]
Dual NVIDIA® GeForce™ GF6800 GT 256MB PCI-Express SLI Recommended [ +$788.00 ]
Dual NVIDIA® GeForce™ 7800 GTX 256MB PCI-Express DDR3 SLI - NEW! May delay your order [ +$1211.00 ]
NVIDIA® GeForce™ GF6600 GT 128MB PCI-Express SLI Ready [ -$293.00 ]
NVIDIA® GeForce™ GF6800 256MB PCI-Express SLI Ready [ -$82.10 ]
NVIDIA® GeForce™ GF6800GT 256MB PCI-Express SLI [ +$101.00 ]
NVIDIA® GeForce™ 7800 GTX 256MB PCI-Express DDR3 - NEW! - Will delay your order [ +$312.00 ]

see i'm thinking GeFroce 7800 GTX SLI (X2 so two cards)
i'm alright with paying up for that. but does anyone have other ideas?

also ram:

Alienware® 512Mb Dual Channel PC- 3200 DDR400 Low Latency - 2 x 256Mb [ -$100.00 ]
Alienware® 1Gb Dual Channel PC- 3200 DDR400 Low Latency - 2 x 512Mb
Alienware® 2Gb Dual Channel PC- 3200 DDR400 Low Latency - 4 x 512Mb [ +$220.00 ]
Corsair 512MB Dual Channel DDR PC-3200 Low Latency at 400MHz - 2 x 256MB [ -$90.00 ]
Corsair 1GB Dual Channel DDR PC-3200XL Xtra low latency (400MHz) - 2 x 512MB Recommended [ +$135.00 ]
Corsair 2GB Dual Channel DDR PC-3200XL Xtra low latency (400MHz) - 4 x 512MB [ +$275.00 ]
Corsair 2GB Dual Channel DDR PC-3200XL Xtra low latency (400MHz) - 2 x 1Gb [ +$305.00 ]

well i chose the 1GB alienware Dual Channel PC stuff, its not too expensive, but is it like way too expensive or is another choice a better deal? coz i'm trying to save every last cent.

also with the sound cards do i HAVE to perchase one to hear in games and listen to music and stuff? don't really mind about the "best quality sound" i'm already used to laptop speakers.

For the video card, do not get SLi as it is a waste of money because you are paying for 2 cards with only a 30% performance increase. I would recommend getting the 7800GTX as this will run any game out at the moment on max settings.

As for memory, you should get the cheapest 2GB set unless you are going to overclock. Low latency memory has absolutely no performance increase over value memory unless you are overclocking.

Im not sure about the AlienIce™ 2.0 Video Cooling System but I think it's watercooling?
