There is a dual core optimizer amd just released that is supposed to help, but its not necessary, but probably a good idea. Computer runs fine without it, but its just a download and install. easy as pie.

i've heard there are performance issues with the optimizer.
bzflag do you have it and run it? what excactly are the benefits?
 
I agree, switching to AM2 platform isn't worth it when you can get a faster, more bang for buck, conroe CPU.

Upgrading to a X2 x939 won't be bad as well, if you don't feel like having to upgrade to a different platform.
