but would power consumption problems stilll be evident even with no optical drives connected an 1 dimm of ram?

(cant get a bigger psu to test atm)

That's a genuine POS. It has freakin 10A on the 12V rail. That's HORRIBLE. How about a 450W Fortron PSU?
