Drive and Fan Question

Hi,
I want to get this drive for my computer:

It is the most popular one on Newegg I assume. Is it good, will it read and write discs good?

Also while I am posting a new thread I will ask this too. Is this cpu heatsink/fan good for not overclocking but playing games (I have a Pentium 4 3.0 GHz Socket 478 processor):

IMO it looks cheap.

It is cheap, but for the price is it good? I'm not going to be overclocking, or burning dvd's daily.

I don't have any hsf, that is why I need to buy one.
