Default DirectX and Graphic Card Question

Do I need windows vista to fully utilise the DirectX 10 graphics card? Lets take for example, the Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS and the Ati Radeon HD2900XT, which are DirectX 10 graphics card. Will there be any flaw or incompatibility if I use these two mainstreams graphics card on windows xp? Is it unworth to get the 8800gts or the 2900xt if I still prefer to stick with windows xp?

It's worth it. But no DX10 under XP. Still not enough to switch to VISTA though, IMO.

So do you think I should get a 7950gt and a x1950 instead of 8800gts and a 2900xt?

Reason for sticking with xp is due to vista compatibilty issues with older programs and also using a lot of system resources which causes lag and long bootup and shutdown.

8800GTS will run fine on XP

And I strongly recommend 8800GTS 320MB because it is the best value for money
