Default Difference between ATI and Nvidia Graphics.

Newegg.com - PNY VCGGTS2501XPB GeForce GTS 250 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Newegg.com - POWERCOLOR AX4850 1GBD3-PH Radeon HD 4850 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

I'm debating between these two graphics cards. The ATI is cheaper and it has more streaming processors. The Nvidia has faster core and memory clocks. Now, unfortunately I have no idea what streaming processors do so taking all of the above into consideration...which one is better?

Yes, I've seen the list, but why is it better?

It performs better in games because of a better architecture, and its manufacturing process makes it cheaper and runs cooler. Keep in mind that these cards compete directly with each other.

What do the streaming processors do and why are there more in the ATI card?

They are a type of processor used in GPUs for alot of parallel processing, much more simple than the cores in a CPU.

But you can't compare Nvidia to ATI cards in this way because they use two different stream processor types. The only way to measure which is best is through real world benchmarks.
