Sorry if this question has been answered already -- I searched, but couldn't find anything..

I'm looking at the MSI P35 Platinum for the foundation of a new system (my first home build, after 20 years of buying and tweaking commercial boxes). The specs say it will take DDR2 800 or 1066, though I'll have to tune the BIOS to get the 1066 to work.

So I have two questions:

  1. Is there a real advantage to 2GB of 1066 over 2GB of 800? This will be primarily a work computer, but I want it to be VERY fast and responsive. Gaming is way down the list for me.
  2. How tricky is it to tune a BIOS to make use of DDR2 at 1066? It's not something I've done before, so I just don't know what's involved.

Thanks in advance!

you can get a good DDR2 800 kit and overclock it past 1066 speeds easily
any DDR2 over 800 is just a waste of money

My Ballistix went straight from DDR2-800 to DDR2-1000, right out the box. With no change. I plan on going further, but still testing.
