CrossFire installation

I have just performed my first major upgrade mainly for gaming. I have i7 950CPU, ASUS rampage extreme Motherboard, and two HIS 6850 graphics cards. I have installed the cards in the 1st and 3 rd slots, the cards are too thick to use the first 2 slots. I am using the crossfire cable supplied with the motherboard as the one supplied with the video cards is to short. How can I tell if the crossfire setup is working. I have run the catalyst control center program and when I open the crossfire X window only 1 video card is listed, and when I click on the identify GPU the number one is displayed.

Any help appreciated.

Both cards must have power supplied to them. The power supply must be big enough to power both cards.

Un-install the video driver and then re-install the driver. When you re-install the driver it should see both cards and install the driver for both of them.
