Sorry Ste. I haven't chosen one yet - i'm not sure what i'll need if I change from the phenom to an e1260 @3ghz.

So overall - : S

DawnofDoom - Home electronic music production with Cubase or maybe Pro Tools. This makes me think I can downsize my spec.

I got carried away with the spec. The computer I need for music doesn't need to be so high performance. Can you recommend a processor level for working on relatively small audio projects?

the e2160 will serve your purposes till you wana upgrade to say a q6600

you will se a big jump in performance when you go to the quad. and the quad will render your music faster for you after you get it mixed

Ok thanks, i've just read reviews on the e2160. Others are overclocking it to 3.0ghz like you said and even higher. I'll do up a new list. Recommend any psu from Ste's list for a system with the e1260 overclocked to 3ghz, and any cooling system/fan?

Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-EP35C-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Dynamic Energy Saver Ultra Durable II Intel Motherboard - Retail

Gigabyte is probably better on the p35 line

Here is the revised spec for my music production pc. Thoughts?

I'm aiming for the corporate speak-esque catchment term of quiet power.

EVGA nVidia 650i Ultra Socket 775 8 channel audio ATX Motherboard - Ebuyer
£59.99 inc vat + free postage

Future proof mobo - supports quad core and has 4 ram strips.

Intel E2160 Socket 775 Pentium Dual Core 2x1.8Ghz 800FSB Retail Boxed Processor - Ebuyer
£44.33 inc vat + free postage

This is going to be overclocked hopefully to around 3ghz.

Seagate ST3320620AS 320GB Hard Drive SATAII 7200RPM 16MB Cache - OEM - Ebuyer
£51.82 inc vat + free postage

LG GSA-H55LBL 20X DVD±RW/DL/Ram LightScribe Black Bare Drive - OEM - Ebuyer
£18.79 inc vat + free postage

Corsair HX Modular 520W PSU
Still looking at prices.
I've seen it from £65 to £75 now so i'll say £70 for now

Kingston 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 Memory Non-ecc CL5 Unbuffered 1.8V - Ebuyer
£33.25 inc vat + free postage

Arctic Cooling AC-FRZ-7P Freezer 7 Pro Socket 775 Processor Cooler - Ebuyer
£15.43 inc vat + free postage

= £293.61

Can anybody recommended a case?

change the CPU to an e2200, faster for not that much more
that mobo is NOT that futureproof
a p35 chipset board would be perfect for your build get one of these
IP35 or P35-DS3R
