Mostly just low-level multitasking, no one program is a hog, but I run a lot of programs at once + media player. Two 24" gateway lcds dvi for vid. Good? May want to eventually play WoW for leisure, nothing serious. Want to be futureproof for a little while. Any help appreciated.

dont get a lightscribe they are stupid and not worth the extra cash

also you need to be more spacific about what your buying, give us links to the exact products, like what psu are you getting?
and what asus board, and honestly save your money because you probably wont ever go sli

if you copy/paste the N code into the Newegg search, it'll take you to the product. Mayb I suggest:

Gigabyte GA 965P-DS3 - 133.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128012

by saving that money you can get a decent PSU... that much hardware, you're not going to want a generic PSU...

Antec True Power Trio 550W - 100.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817371002

The sound card is not need IMO. The sound on the mobo is VERY good. (As I have the same board), so you can save pennies there as well...

LG Super-Multi DVD Burner - 30.00
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16827136103

I'm vouching for that LG Super Multi DVD burner. I bought it last year when they were 16X speed, but it is still a very good burner, perhaps the best, and I've had no coasters, and I've used some pretty crappy discs with it and there are no problems.

Don't waste the cash on LightScribe, if you want to print on discs, use a felt-tip pen or an EPSON CD-Printing Printer.

EDIT:

On the reviews of the DVD burner, people do say that they make coasters. That is probably because they are burning 8 or 16X Discs at 18X speed, which will make the discs mess up, creating coasters.

NEVER burn discs over what speed they are designed for. It just makes coasters, wasting $$$.

Thanks for all the help guys, I edited links into all the stuff in the OP. I take it the PS I was looking at is no good? Money is not really an object although no one wants to be raked over the coals.

Anyway, I was speaking to a geek squad buddy of mine and he said if I were going to play WoW eventually for fun, that stuff like ambient sound and crap makes you lag if you don't have a sound card. For example he has fielded numerous complaints from kids putting in a screamin vid card and still lagging in WoW, each time putting in a sound card makes it right. Comments?

I have just about the same setup, and it gets amazing performance in all games, including newer, more intense ones like FEAR, Advanced Warfighter, R6 Vegas, and HL2 EP1.

I just hope it gets good results come Crysis....

I wouldn't believe anything that Geek Squad says. They're in for money, we're here for help.

A sound card isn't really needed unless you're using a really nice speaker setup.

Are you planning to overclock?

The nforce4 was built for the 939 socket and won't get very high fsb compared to a 956p chipset that was made for the conroes.

The hiper 580w is a good psu.

Thx again, this forum is great. I'm not planning to OC but it looked like this mobo is pretty newb friendly and not very dangerous.

I understand what you are saying about the geek squad, but this guy is a childhood buddy geek that learned his stuff before going to best buy, its not a random sales dude. He did say this issue was WoW specific and I'm sure he could be wrong but I like the look of the card anyway. Reviews were hit or miss but I'm not going to sweat it.

So I should steer away from the board I selected and look for a 956p? I like Asus, do they make a 956p? I guess I could go look... der. Thanks again

Heres a article explaining how the nforce4 works with the conroes. In my opinion i wouldn't get one, but only because overclocking is a necessity for me.

The asus p5b deluxe offers sli at x4 x16 but i wouldn't get it for sli since x4 x16 probably won't give you much of a performance increase, but they overclock like champs ;). The 680i chipset offers the best from both worlds but their still expensive (especially the asus striker and p5n32-e).

Now if you still decide to go with the nforce4 just make sure you don't decide to overclock later....you will be disappointed.
