The idea is to make a Gaming/ multi-tasking rig that wasn't too expensive with room to upgrade my question is about the AMD Athlon II and Phenom II both quad cores the Phenom is $10 bucks more. I most likely wont OC since this is my first build.

The Phenom. First and foremost, if you don't plan to overclock, GHz is important, and the phenom has a higher clock.
Sadly, the newer Phenoms are a bit different than previous ones, they are basically Athlons renamed to Phenom.
