I remember i spent over 1500 for my dual core rig...and then the q6600 dropped to 266 (paid 230 for my E6600), man was i bummed.
Your first statement is why i don't think its quite ready to upgrade my 8800 gtx, at best even a GTX 280 offers only 50% performance improvement over a 8800 gtx, with a GTX 260 offering as low as 25% performance improvement in many cases ( check out anandtechs benchmarks where they compare a whole load of cards ). This contrasts highly when comparing the 8 series to the 7 series, where a 8800 gtx was more then 2x faster then a 7900 and such...
also when did you buy your dual core processor? Last year I waited until July/August cause thats when the q6600s went from like 350 to 260.
