Default Computer Specs

I'll make it no secret that I've never actually had a hand in purchasing a computer before (Been using an old laptop), and I'm probably going to sound really annoying and stupid, but if I wanted a computer for the main purpose of gaming for under 800Ä/1000$, what type of specs should I be looking for? There are a ton of options and I have no idea if X is compatible with Y and Z or etc. Any help would be appreciated, and sorry for any trouble.

Ballpark of:
i5 4440
Asus H81
8GB (2x4) 1600MHz (cheapest available)
eVGA GTX 760
Seasonic S1211 520w PSU (or Corsair CS500 if available)
1TB Seagate or WD (whatever is cheaper)
A case of your choice. NZXT Source 210 is decent and cheap, Corsair 200r is a great starting point.

Then your OS of choice. Windows 7 or 8.

I'll back the corsair 200R. Good case, and plenty of fan space. That's the case I'll be using in my build too :P
