Hardly... for the price of we'll say, Pentuim performing "A" tasks per second, the Athlon 64 will perform "A" tasks per second also. This processor will usually be around 20% less in price. This leaves room for the next AMD processor up, allowing you to do "A+B" instructions per second. It's all about bang/buck. I'd go with the AMD Athlon series, without a doubt in my mind.

I'll look into building with an AMD.
