Hello everyone. I have selected some parts for my custom mid-range gaming build. I am trying to stay within a $700-$800 budget. I don't plan on overclocking or doing anything drastic to my system. As you can see, I am not getting a keyboard, mouse, monitor, dvd drive, speaker system, or OS, because they are not a part of my budget.

Here are the links to my parts so you can see the ratings and specs for each. My main concern is if there would be any conflict between any pieces of hardware I have listed below.

Case:
Newegg.com - Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases

Motherboard: (Its not crossfire enabled, and I dont plan on utilizing dual gpu's)
Newegg.com - GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

PSU: Corsair 550W
Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W ATX12V V2.2 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies

CPU: Core 2 Duo 3.0Ghz
Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Wolfdale 3.0GHz 6MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

RAM: 2X2GB Dual Channel (I noticed the RAM speed does not match the RAM standard on my motherboard. Is this a problem?)
Newegg.com - CORSAIR 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory - Desktop Memory

HDD: 640GB
Newegg.com - Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD6400AAKS 640GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - Internal Hard Drives

GPU: ATI Radeon 4850
Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100245L Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Lighting: Dual 12in cold cathode blue LED's
12in Dual Blue Cold Cathode Kit

Thermal Compound:
Newegg.com - Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound - Thermal Compound / Grease

Total Price (including shipping & automatic discounts): $780
Thanks everyone for your input!

With these parts, is it necessary for me to purchase a dedicated CPU cooler (fan + heatsink)? Since I'm not overclocking, it should be fine, right?

I will be buying these parts before Monday, so I just want to make sure that these parts are reasonable choices. Is my build good?

don't worry about the ram speed standard.. it will boot with 800mhz just fine

the build looks great... and no you don't need to get an aftermarket cooler.. it will run just fine with standard cooler.. you can even overclock it a little bit on stock voltage if you wanted to

This would be a little closer to the $800 limit, but for ten more dollars you could the same size HD with twice the cache, better rated as well.

Thank you very much for this find. I will be buying this instead of my original hard drive.

And thank you to the others who commented on my list of parts.

No problem. That's the drive I'm getting for my Christmas build; screw RAID. This is cheaper, and performs just about as well.

lol.. don't perform as well as raid

2 320gb's would perform much faster... probably around 150mb/s .. maybe more!

Thanks all.

So what kind of gaming experience am I guaranteed with this card? More specifically, on a 22" widescreen at 1680 x 1050.

Does the card help speed up other graphic programs, such as photoshop cs3 and adobe after effects?
