cheap gaming rig help

im am currently trying to build a cheap gaming rig out of old parts, i have everything but the motherboard, and video card.

i need something that will play games like half life 2 and doom3, and i only have a $300 dollar budget. but should an amd 64 3000 cpu be fast enough, what would be a good video card and motherboard all for under $300. thanks

thanks for your help, but im thinking of just upgrading to an amd 4000+ san diego core 939 socket
