Default Cheap but good Gaming Rig

Hello everyone, i'm looking to build myself a new gaming rig. I'm also working on a starting budget of about 800 bucks, so i can't go too high-end with anything. This is also the first rig i will build so im lacking a bit of experience. If you could recommend Parts and mods that would make a decent gaming rig for a decent price, that would be awesome. Here are what i'm looking for....
- Case w/ cooling (cooling optional)
- Motherboard, preferably ASUS
- CPU (no clue about what is good for gaming)
- Power Supply
- Video Card
- Hard Drive
- Disc Drives
- and any other component i forgot to mention.

Remember that i have 800 to start and i could put off finishing it until i get more money. Just recommend where to start and what is good at a reasonable price. Thank You.

All my stuff was just under $900 after shipping, I play BF2 on full everything, COD2 on full, FEAR on all high settings...only thing I would reconsider in my list is the PSU..people say the aspire power supplies suck...i haven't had any issues though.

But if you're get anything I have..get the XFX 6800GS, best bang for your buck at the moment for a vid card.

The 3700+ San Diego is probably the best bang for your buck as far as gaming, it overclocks to fx-57 (best gaming chip out) speeds with the same core...its a single-core processor, which for gaming is all you'll need, but if you want to do a lot of processing with programs in windows and what not, you'll want a dual-core like the 3800+.

I like my MB, but I hear a lot of good things about the DFI lanparty.

I always highly recommend the case I got, great cooling, room for all kinds of fans (120 mm in back, 80 mm on top, 2 80mm on front, side intake w/ duct)

Do you plan to buy two video cards? If not, you won't want an SLI board. You're missing a video card on that list.

You should be able to use the board with only 1 video card even if its SLI, I think they still support 1 vid. card aswell.

Alright guys this is i have so far.

-ASUS A8N-SLI-PREMIUM (I'M JUST GONNA STICK WITH IT SINCE THE OTHER GUY WAS RIGHT ABOUT IT RUNNING ONLY ONE CARD)
-AMD ATHLON 64 3700+ SAN DIEGO
-ANTEC 550W TRUE POWER 2.0
-SEAGATE BARRACUDA 7200.8 250GB
-EVGA 6800 GS
WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK?
DOES THAT SOUND VERY OVERCLOCKABLE?

SO FAR IT'S ABOUT 791.98 BEFORE SHIPPING. ALL I NEED NOW IS THE CASE, ANY SUGGESTIONS? PREFFERABLY SOMETHING COOLED BECAUSE I'VE MANAGED TO SCRAPE UP SOME MORE CASH.

ok dont waste your money on an A8N sli premium. if your gona go sli buy a DFI Lanparty UT Ultra-D (not SLI but can be modded to be SLI) or if your not overclocking(I doubt that though) get a MSI K8N Neo4 both great boards.

links
MSI: 80$
http://www.newegg.com/product/produc...82E16813130491

DFI: 130$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813136152

now you forgot the RAM just get some good OCZ performance for overclocking and even if your not its god RAM.

OCZ Performance: 109$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146883

get EVGA 6800GS for video

EVGA 6800GS: about 200$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814130258

now if you really want to do some major overclocking get an opteron lees money then the 3700+ but if you not the 3700+ is a really great CPU. on the old opterons people used to get them to 3.0ghz on stock cooling but not anymore.

Opteron 146: 180$
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Produc...e=pricegrabber
(had to get it from zipzoomfly cause its 259$ on newegg.

athlon 3700+: 222$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103539

if your overclocking realy far you'll need good cooling so go with the Zalman 9500

Zalman: 63$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835118223

you'll need a big PSU for overclocking so get a 500w+ heres a good antec one(great Brand)

Antec: 68$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103937

for drives you dont need an expensive cd drive just get a very good NECor lite-on drive for 40$

NEC: 40$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144415

and western digital and segate are the best hard drive companies go with this western digital plus its SATA 3.0gb/s

WD: 85$
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144415

just post a case and have someone tell you if its any good but what i posted is in between 850$ and 1000$ but it dosent take that much time to save up another 150$ hope this helps you this is what i've learned from everyone here on how to get the best bang for your buck and what the best companies are.
