CD drive and hard drive on the same IDE cable?

I'm going to be ordering a motherboard that only has one IDE connector and was wondering if it is possible to put my hard drive and my cd drive on the same cable. Maybe I would set the HD as master and the CD drive as slave?

of course... ide can support up to 2 drives.

Yes its possible, but dont its going to be slow if you are trying to do HDD intensive operations while also operating the cd drive.
