Default cant get mobo to stop beeping

i have the intel d975xbx2 mobo, and am using a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600. i used a aftermarket and stock heat sinks, and both give the same results. am getting a loud siren coming from the mobo. i looked up what this means, and it says that my cpu is over heating. i dont understand how it is b\c the heatsink is installed. can someone please shed some light on this? thanks

Ya if it is throwing the overheating signal them something isn't cooling sufficiently. Or the alarm is set to a temperature too low.

all good ideas but something far more simple was the problem. i feel dumb, almost even walking away from building computers for life. i didnt plug in the power cable to the hdd. ><

I would try reseating the RAM first, if it doesnt work, try putting them in the different dimms. If that solves the issue then there's something wrong with the other two dimm slots.

If none of those work, then reseat your cpu. Do it without a heatsink just to make sure that it was seated properly. I know people will not recommend booting a PC without the heatsink on but its ok just to make sure you hear the post, when you do, just plug the power off when you hear it post.

If not, then your MOBO is for sure detecting something, reseat your graphics card as well.

In that case, I would try plugging in the power cable to the Hard drive(s).
